Robert Martin is the Uncle of Dr. Grant. He was the first African American City Commissioner serving for three terms and Mayor Pro-tem in Temple, Texas. He was a 1955 graduate of Dunbar High school and attended Prairie View A&M University. Robert worked as a Supervisor for Martin-Marietta Corporation in Denver, Colorado; owned and operated Jo’s Food Store in Temple on E Avenue I; as Program Manager for Texas Department of Community Affairs in Austin; as a Supervisor for Heart of Texas Council of Government in Waco; as a Realtor at Accent Real Estate Services, Temple for many years; and for Branford/Dawson Funeral Home for over 25 years. He was a Mason serving under a Lodge in Denver, Colorado.
Robert Martin was a forerunner for African American to seek office, and several followed him.
I will be the forerunner for an African American woman to hold the seat when elected into office. In any leadership role I am in or obtain, my goal is that any black or people of color female child has a role model to look up to and a mentor in me. This will show them that anything is possible if you love God, love yourself, work hard, and love people.
