"Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud."
Soooo....I must admit I was late for the Volunteer and Partner Appreciation Reception. I missed the speaker Gill Hollie, TISD Coordinator of Community Connections, who I wanted to support. I was, however, able to talk with Chief Reynolds, Gill, and Barbara Bozon. No excuse, but I received a phone call, as I was leaving for the event, from a homeless lady crying because they said she couldn't vote. She used her friend's address for her ID, but she sleeps on the streets. The address used was not in the district but on the opposite side of the street. She said she looked up zoefortemple.com from the sign, was intrigued, believed in what I stood for, and wished to vote for me. I consoled her and let her know I appreciated the gesture and for her not to be detoured from voting in the future. I encouraged her and lifted her and others up in prayer.

Temple Economic Development Corporation Talk with Adrian Cannady April 19

Wednesday was a great day; even though I was home with sciatic pain, I managed to keep my calendar events. I always enjoyed talking with Adrian Cannady, President of the Temple Economic Development Corporation, and this day was no different. We had a great conversation, and although we couldn’t meet in person this time, we didn’t want to reschedule again. (We are busy people) Although TEDC is a separate entity, several city officials are on their board. TEDC’s mission is to retain, attract, and support the people and businesses necessary to improve the quality of life in Temple. The conversation was about the current and future economic growth of the key industries in the City of Temple, the status and employment opportunities, and yes, for those wondering; Meta is still here and just in the redesigning stage. Adrian was a recent speaker at the NAACP Temple Branch General Meeting, so many of my questions were raised or addressed.

It was a pleasure to meet you! I had the privilege of meeting Temple Area Builder Association members for lunch and conversation. I look forward to talking more with you as I walk away with a better understanding of your expertise and concerns and a common goal of affordable housing. Temple High School Visit April 3

I had a very enlightening tour of Temple High School while conversing with Dr. Bobby Ott, TISD Superintendent. I am very impressed with the overall school building, the Wildcat Workforce, and the many opportunities awarded to youth for career-building. Their motto of Inspire, Engage, and Prepare is very fitting to what I saw on my walk through each section. The inspiration provided to our youth for growth in education is priceless. https://wildcatworkforce.com/ Temple Independent School District
